iPhone 3GS

Wow! It's been a while since I posted anything here. Probably no one is watching, but I thought I would just say to whatever world might be tuned in that the new iPhone model is the best yet. We have 2 now in the family, both on O2 (UK), which we used during the summer holidays to keep track of mail, snap holiday pictures and even upload some videos.

That's the big news: a new 3Mpx camera with video. Sorry - no live video calls in this model, but we enjoyed the ease of taking a movie and shipping it off instantly for the grandkids to see our travels.

The extra megapixels are also clearly visible in the pictures, as evidenced by our Facebook uploads, again quite simple to do with the Facebook app. Compared with the original 2G (I still have one), it's a major step forward. Even the previous 3G version is bested by the longer battery life and better camera.

As for the iPhone in general, it simply cannot be beat. As a Mac user, it is a no-brainer. We have our accounts synced so that if either of us changes a calendar or contacts entry, the change is instantly visible on all the iPhones and Macs. You can do a similar thing under Windows, as it also will sync with Google Contacts and Calendar. There are hundreds of apps now - I'm up to 5 screens! (Too many, really - I have trouble finding them all.) But the smooth functionality and ease of use, especially with my Gmail account, simply cannot be beat.

The bottom line is that I really like the new 3GS, so I'll be updating my 2G soon. Here in the US, I have to admit that AT&T is not my favorite network, but it's workable, and I don't expect to see a Verizon version anytime in the near future. OK, possibly within the 2 year contract period, but hey, I'm ready to move on.
